Security Questionnaire Cost Calculator

Estimate how many internal hours and how much team cost a buyer questionnaire may consume. The calculator uses your own assumptions—no hidden industry benchmark.

Planning estimate

15.0 hManual effort before reuse
$1,350Internal cost before reuse
5.3 hEstimated effort after applying your reuse assumption
$878Potential internal cost avoided under your assumption

This is a planning tool, not a performance claim. Actual effort depends on questionnaire complexity, evidence quality and review requirements.

How to reduce questionnaire cost without increasing risk

Improve source evidence

Well-structured, current policies reduce repeated research and ambiguous answers.

Reuse approved positions

Save reviewed answers with their source and last-reviewed date instead of copying from memory.

Escalate only gaps

Route uncertain questions to subject-matter experts while allowing supported answers to move quickly through review.

How the questionnaire cost estimate works

The calculator starts with four inputs you control: the number of buyer questions, average manual minutes required per question, your blended internal hourly cost, and the percentage of questions you expect to reuse from approved evidence. Manual effort before reuse is calculated as question count multiplied by minutes per question, divided by 60. Internal cost is that effort multiplied by the blended hourly rate.

The reuse percentage is then applied as a planning assumption to estimate how much manual effort could remain when approved answers and evidence are available. This is intentionally simple: a 200-question AI procurement review with five minutes of research per question is very different from a highly technical DDQ that needs legal, security and product review. Use the output to compare workflows, not as a guaranteed productivity claim.

Example

If a questionnaire contains 180 questions and your team averages five minutes per question, the baseline is 15 hours. At a blended cost of $90 per hour, that is $1,350 of internal effort before considering reuse. If 65% of questions can be supported by current approved evidence, the calculator estimates roughly 5.3 hours of remaining manual effort. Actual savings depend on evidence quality, review depth and how much buyer-specific customization is required.
